Retail Forever

Welcome back to Retail Forever, where today we have the third and final post about a Giant-Landover supermarket in the Silver Spring, Maryland area. This specific location is located at 13490 New Hampshire Avenue, and it opened in 1978. Located just 8 minutes away from the Giant in White Oak, which we had a post about a few weeks ago, this supermarket not only has competition from chains such as Aldi and Safeway but from other Giant locations. Toys "R" Us #8326, located at 1430 Harrisburg Pike in  Lancaster, Pennsylvania opened in 1989 as one of Toys "R" Us's "brown roof" stores, with the entrance aligned to the far right of the building. In the mid-1990s, it was remodeled to the "Concept 2000" prototype, which remained in place until the store's last day, in August of 2018. When I photographed this store on April 17, 2021, there were not really any signs of demolition to come. Yes, I knew it was going to happen at some point as PennState Health had bought the land to build a new outpatient center, but not this soon... Anyway, here's an image I saw on May 3... Not exactly sure where this image is from, but it sure is the Lancaster location... Anyway, now I'll show you my photos of the store from April 17. The road sign. Giant #301, located at 13781 Connecticut Avenue opened on November 1, 2007, with the old logo. In the early 2010s, the logo was updated (like at most other Giant stores). Giant opened its 45,000 sq. foot New Hampshire Avenue supermarket between 1957 and 1963 under the chain's Super Giant banner. When the Super Giant banner was discontinued, the exterior logo was updated. The logo was updated again in the early 2010s to the current Giant-Landover logo. This is a typical Dollar Tree. Concrete floors, Unbranded products, and everything's $1.00. I'm unsure of when it opened (It's a dollar store. Newspapers aren't really going to write articles about it.). It was expanded in early 2021. *cough* "Everything's $1.00" *cough* If you're reading this, you know what happened.
