ALDI #2680 Opened:  2019 Address:   10 N. DuPont Hwy Photographed:  July 2021 To wrap up this blog's Delawarean posts for the season, we find ourselves at Aldi #2680 in Dover. After this, back to Pennsylvania. The chain's fifth store in Delaware, Aldi of Dover (10 N. DuPont Hwy) opened held its grand opening on June 13, 2019. Similar to last week's Lidl, information on this store is pretty sparse and now I'll be wrapping up. 

LIDL #1166 Opened:  2020 Address:   150 N. DuPont Hwy Photographed:  July 2021 This is our second-to-last Doverean (I don't think that's a real word, does it make sense?) supermarket to take a look at (the other being an Aldi). So, without further ado, here we go. This is a typical store with not much special information, so I'll make this short and sweet. Lidl's 25,000 sq. ft. SAFEWAY #1763 Opened:  2001 Address:   190 John Hunn Brown Rd Photographed:  July 2021 Welcome to Dover! Before visiting Aldi and Lidl, let's take a glimpse at the one traditional supermarket I have photographed in Dover - Safeway #1763. Before the current Dover store, Safeway operated two other supermarkets in Dover, at 25 Greentree Dr and 1255 S. State St. Both of these closed in 1987 with the rest of Safeway's Delawarean stores. The opening of this store marked the start of Safeway's second try in Delaware. The store at 190 John Hunn Brown Rd opened in Spring 2001. The exterior was "remodeled" (they updated the logo) at some point between 2008 and 2012. When ACME and Safeway have overlaps in terms of store locations, one of them usually ends up closing. RITE AID #11189 Opened:  2007 Closed: 2019 Address:   245 N. DuPont Hwy Photographed:  July 2021 Rite Aid #11189 started out as an Eckerd at 15 S. DuPont Hwy in 1982. It was later sold to Thrift Drug and returned to Eckerd again starting in 1997. In 2000, Eckerd built a new store at 245 N. DuPont Hwy, replacing the older store. Rite Aid eventually wound up with this store in 2007, upon buying the Eckerd chain, although it ultimately closed in 2019, likely due to competition with CVS #1911 (0.6 miles away at 11 N. DuPont Hwy) and Walgreens #11036 (0.4 miles away at 261 N.
