Glimpse: Giant #6563 - Quarryville, PA

Image
GIANT #6563 Opened:  2019 Address:  100 Townsedge Dr Photographed:  April 2022 For our next stop, we make a quick return to Lancaster County for one of the final Giant stores in the county that I've not yet photographed, before moving on to Pottstown. For the complete history of what happened here, we must go back to 1916, when E. E. Ferguson and George W. Hassler opened a general store on State Street in downtown Quarryville. It was a while between the opening of that store and the opening of the store at TownsEdge Square, and since this post is only supposed to be about the TownsEdge store, I'll just include a quick timeline of the business's changes through the 1900s that eventually led to the opening of the aforementioned TownsEdge Square store.     1939: A second Ferguson & Hassler opened at the intersection of Routes 472 and 372. It was the first self-service store in Quarryville.     1944: The second store closed     1954: The second store reopened at  17 E St

Glimpse: Former A&P - Woodbridge, NJ

Image
SUPER A&P - WOODBRIDGE, NJ Opened:  2000 Closed: 2010 Address:   789 St. George Ave Photographed:  January 2022 Welcome to New Jersey! This is the blog's first venture into NJ, so while we only have two stores planned this time, there's certainly more to see in the future :). So let's get started with our first store -- this former Super A&P along St. George Avenue. A&P's Woodbridge store was built and opened in 2000 as the joint relocation of the stores at 1555 St George Ave in Avenel and 3 Lafayette Rd in Fords. Just over ten years after it's opening, Woodbridge's A&P was on the chopping block, closing in October 2010. In 2014 and 2021 respectively, Crunch Fitness and Lidl opened in the abandoned supermarket. Courtesy Patch
