GIANT #6563

Opened: 2019
Address: 100 Townsedge Dr
Photographed: April 2022

For our next stop, we make a quick return to Lancaster County for one of the final Giant stores in the county that I've not yet photographed, before moving on to Pottstown.

For the complete history of what happened here, we must go back to 1916, when E. E. Ferguson and George W. Hassler opened a general store on State Street in downtown Quarryville. It was a while between the opening of that store and the opening of the store at TownsEdge Square, and since this post is only supposed to be about the TownsEdge store, I'll just include a quick timeline of the business's changes through the 1900s that eventually led to the opening of the aforementioned TownsEdge Square store.

1939: A second Ferguson & Hassler opened at the intersection of Routes 472 and 372. It was the first self-service store in Quarryville.
    1944: The second store closed
1954: The second store reopened at 17 E State St.
1977: A new store is built at the intersection of 333 W. Fourth St. It replaced the original store on State Street.

And that brings us to 1988, when the TownsEdge shopping center would open, including the largest Ferguson Hassler supermarket to date. It replaced the store on Fourth Street.

F&H remodeled and expanded the store in 1997 and 2013, with the 2013 expansion including an exterior overhaul for the entire shopping center.

In May 2019, Giant Food Stores purchased the store. Ferguson & Hassler enjoyed a 103-year run in Quarryville, closing for the final time on June 19, 2019. Giant opened on June 28, 2019, making this the chain's first store in Quarryville.

And now, it's time for my photos of the Quarryville Giant.

And that concludes Quarryville Giant #6563. If you're interrested in the other Quarryville Giant, make sure to check it out here.
