Tour: Weis #17 - Lancaster, PA

This is a repost (sort of). There was a Quick Look of this store a little while ago. Now that I have more photos, I'm doing a full tour.

Weis #17, located at 1700 Fruitville Pike, Unit A in Lancaster, Pennsylvania opened in the late 1990s as what could have been a relocation of the store 1890 Fruitville Pike, which opened with a neighboring Kmart. It ended up closing in the 1990s, so the relocation makes plenty of sense. Plus, the original location likely opened in 1970 (with the Kmart), which makes the store number make even more sense. Store #17 has used the glass tower entrance since its original opening. Behind the glass, on the inside of the store, there is a large “mural” with photos of fruits and vegetables. This location recently received a new exterior sign, removing the older one with the silver sides in favor of a new one in all red.

UPDATE 04/30/21 (thanks to catnapped): The store next to the former Kmart originally opened as a Pantry Pride back in 1970 and became Weis around 1980. That store actually relocated to #88 on Manheim Pike.

  1. The former location next to (what was) Kmart opened as a Pantry Pride back in 1970 and would become a Weis Market around 1980. From what I remember, it was 'relocated' to the Erbs (now Weis) on Manheim Pike, with the Red Rose Commons store not coming around for several years afterward.

    1. Ah. I've heard both thoughts, the one at 1890 Fruitville relocating to Manheim Pike or this one here on Fruitville. I just figured it was this one due to the store number.
