Glimpse: Shur Fine - New Oxford, PA

This technically should be a weekly grocery store post but it seemed too interesting to wait.

When I was looking through my 2018 photos a few days ago, I came across this interesting one. It's a photo of the abandoned Shur Fine supermarket in New Oxford, Pennsylvania. Not much is known about this supermarket, so this is going to be a shorter post. It appears that this store opened in the early 1980s, and around 2013, a Sunoco gas station was added to the site. This supermarket appears to have closed in 2017 (based on Google Maps and Historic Aerials), and it became a Dollar Tree, likely in 2019.
Based on Shur Fine's store locator, it appears that the chain still operates stores in the West (namely in Washington (State) and Oregon) but their Central-Pennsylvania operations have folded.

On a side note, I found some Shur Fine branded plastic forks at the Harrisburg Boscov's back in November 2020. You can see photos of them here

The store's road sign from before Sunoco was added. I find the font choice to be quite interesting in an era of Arial and Montserrat.

My photo from 2018. This shows the store after closure, but before Dollar Tree moved in.

The new Dollar Tree. The Sunoco has closed but has not been demolished.
